Nedda Goes to Kidscreen

Our relationship with program participants doesn’t end once the final assignment or project is completed. We love staying in touch and supporting our alumni throughout their careers. This year, thanks to support from the Canada Media Fund, we sponsored program alumna Nedda Sarshar’s attendance at Kidscreen Summit— ”A must-attend market and conference for the global children’s media industry!” —in Miami, Florida.

“I spent this week meeting with people I would have never seen, connecting with other members of BIPOC TV and Film who are doing SO well, and getting such a great sense of the kids writing market. I always say everything I have in film and television is because of BIPOC TV and Film. Honestly, you all made this silly little dream of mine to be a creative reality! There’s not enough thanks in the world I can extend.”

Nedda Sarshar is a writer, filmmaker and aluma of the BIPOC TV & Film Kids TV Writing program (2020). She hails from an Iranian immigrant family in Toronto, Ontario. Nedda attended the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity’s Emerging Writers Program in 2018 and studied Writing, Policy and Civic Engagement at Syracuse University. She is involved in organizations committed to creating platforms for marginalized voices in the arts, including BIPOC TV & Film (as a volunteer and program coordinator, 2022 Kids’ TV Writing) and MIRCHI COMEDY. She enjoys writing about diasporas, identity crises and star-crossed lovers. Nedda is also the 2021 winner of Reel Asian International Film Festival’s So You Think Can Pitch for her short film Unibrow.
