Logline: When a woman discovers she is pregnant with a baby girl, family and cultural pressures force her to consider an abortion.

REELWORLD DIRECTORS IMMERSION PROGRAM

In this 4-month training initiative, participants will engage in virtual and in-person training sessions from August to November 2024 to help them gain directing credits, establish connections with industry professionals, and learn how to navigate a successful career in the Canadian screen industries. Taking place on July 25, these clinics are designed for Indigenous Storytellers who have questions around IP, chain of title, contracts, and agreements. There are limited spots available. Priority is given to new applicants, however, previous attendees can still apply to attend by July 12.

PUBLIC READING: FEMALE EYE FILM FESTIVAL

As part of the 2024 Female Eye Film Festival Program, community member Christine Rodriguez will be having a public reading of her TV pilot NINA’S 80S.  Logline: In 1980s Montreal, Nina, a Black, mixed-race teen who loves disco, funk and roller skating, is a pariah at her suburban high school until she discovers Cleo’s Castle where all the cool Black teens gather every Saturday night to escape their everyday troubles.

Come show your support  during Day 2 of the Script Readings Series on Friday, July 19 starting at 9am at The Annex Hotel in Toronto.

BORROWED EARS SHORT FILM SHOWCASE CALLOUT

‘Borrowed Ears’ is a one-night community short film showcase celebrating the intimate works of local racialized and queer Brampton artists. The short films and the post-screening Q&A explore the various meanings of culture, self, and ‘home’. ‘Borrowed Ears’ makes room for collective reflection and conversation surrounding the many factors that shape the numerous intersectional identities of our very own Brampton.

Films from all genres under 15 mins will be considered. We are seeking works made by 2SLGBTQ+ and BIPOC groups. Local Brampton artists will be prioritized. Selected films will screen in person at Cyril Clark Library’s Lecture Theatre on August 23rd.
